Josephine Mead
Josephine Mead is a Naarm (Melbourne) based visual artist and writer. Working through photography, sculpture, installation and text, she is interested in personal notions of support. She completed a Degree in Fine Art (Expanded Studio Practice) at RMIT in 2014 and an Honours Degree in Fine Art (First Class) at Monash University in 2017. In 2018 she was shortlisted for the John Fries Award; undertook the Arquetopia Foundation Residency (Mexico); undertook the MacFarlane Fund Residency (Kyneton); participated in the Kings Emerging Writer’s Program and was published by Art + australia, Tributary Projects and un projects. Her work has been exhibited in group exhibitions at a range of venues, including Counihan Gallery, Blindside, Craft Victoria, Kings Artist-Run, Seventh Gallery, Screen Space (NZ), Blue Oyster Space (NZ) and Testing Grounds. She has held solo exhibitions at TAB Gallery (Turkey), c3 contemporary art space, Bus Projects, Stockroom Gallery and the Monash and RMIT University faculty galleries. In 2019 she was awarded a Career Development Grant through the Australian Council for the Arts to undertake the Tasarim Bakkali TAB Residency in Istanbul (Turkey) and the Cortex Frontal Residency in Arraiolos (Portugal). In early 2020 she undertook the ZK/U Residency at Zentrum für Kunst und Urbanistik in Berlin (Germany).
